Political Ad Policy (Neutral Facility Use/Ad Space) per IRS Rule 2007-41M
Westside Watch – Advertisement Policy
Purpose:
To ensure compliance with IRS rules governing tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations, Westside Watch maintains a neutral policy regarding political advertising. Our advertising platform (e.g., newsletter, online communications, etc. ) is made available as a community service and does not imply endorsement or opposition to any political candidate or campaign.
1. Ad Eligibility
-
Advertising space is available to all individuals, businesses, and political candidates on a content-neutral, first-come, first-served basis.
-
Ads must comply with applicable content standards and not conflict with our organization’s mission (e.g., no hate speech, false claims, or obscene material).
2. Political Candidate Advertising
-
Political candidates may purchase ads if:
-
The ad space is available to all candidates in a race on equal terms.
-
The ad is clearly and prominently disclaimed (e.g., "Paid for by [Candidate Name] for [Office]").
-
3. Rates and Access
-
Rates are fair market value and the same for all advertisers.
-
Ad space must be purchased using the same process required of all advertisers.
-
Ad purchases do not imply sponsorship or endorsement by Westside Watch.
4. Separation from Organizational Messaging
-
Political ads will be placed in a designated ad section and visibly separated from any editorial or organizational content.
-
No ad will appear on the same page as an article about the candidate or their campaign.
